Goal Setting For 2020: How To Crush It

Goal Setting

Let me guess: you’ve already prepared a list of things you want to achieve in the upcoming year. Maybe you want to lose weight or just eat healthier and work out regularly. Perhaps you want to hit your income goals or spend more time with your significant people. No matter what you have on your list, your way of the goal setting should be on the spot.

Self-improvement, or at least the desire for it, became a kind of “hobby” for a lot of people. That’s why many people (around 60%, according to some estimates) devote time to goal setting, especially in December. Nevertheless, only 8% stay committed and achieve the goals they set for the upcoming year.

Why do so many people fail in goal setting, and what you need to do to actually crush your goals in 2020?

Keep It Simple

In December, so many people make long bucket lists for the next year or plan extreme makeovers. While that can be inspiring, such an approach is doomed to failure because we can have many competing priorities. So keep your list of the goals reasonably short for 2020.

Moreover, make sure that all your goals are attainable. Having goals that feel daunting to you can even prevent you from starting working towards them. And you’ll end up failing in the first place.

Make Your Goals Tangible

Setting challenging goals can be inspiring. But if your goal setting is too ambitious, you may have difficulty in achieving the planned results. This way, the frustration can quickly replace your enthusiasm. Therefore, your goals should be rational and achievable.

Making your goals specific will bring more clarity in your goal setting. For example, don’t say that you’ll keep a diet. Specify what your ration will include, what products you’ll avoid, how much calories you’ll consume per day, and so on.

Make Your Goals Obvious

Charting your goals in any way helps in achieving them. You can either create a vision board or write a clear to-do list and check off completed milestones.

Another popular way to make your goals obvious and keep yourself accountable is to share your goals. Let your friends, family, or even your Facebook friends know what you’re up to in the upcoming year.

Sharing your goals is an excellent way to hold yourself to your objectives, and social media can be used as a huge motivator.

Believe You Can Do It

Goal setting is already a big step towards success. But as long as people face some obstacles on their way, they tend to lose motivation or give up.

In the moments of struggle, keep believing you can achieve your goals. Yes, the way to them can be bumpy and challenging, but everything worth having doesn’t come easy. So, keep working towards your goals no matter what.
